THE HLS ATHLETICS PROGRAM
Our Intramural Athletics Program gives students the chance to compete, collaborate, and build character through Flag Football, Basketball, Volleyball, and Track and Field.
Athletics are an integral part of Hephatha’s program.
As a Lutheran school, we desire to teach and encourage Christian conduct and sportsmanship among our student-athletes. In addition, our goal is to encourage participation, while allotting sufficient supervision, practice, and playing time for the members of the squad.
We arrange our before, during, and after school schedules to ensure students have the space to participate in simultaneous extra-curricular and co-curricular activities. During their time at Hephatha, students have the opportunity discover who they are and what drives them, giving them a healthy focus to take with them to High School! Involvement in Athletics, Music, and Electives are great opportunities for self discovery.
Athletics at Hephatha are designed to promote healthy participation in sports for boys and girls in grades 5th through 8th. Hephatha is one of 10 schools in the Lutheran Orange County Athletic League (LOCAL). Sportsmanship is expected from all involved, and should always reflect a Christian lifestyle. Hephatha believes that all parents, coaches, and teachers have the responsibility to develop these characteristics in each and every student athlete.
We have a full athletic field and basketball court on our campus, and offer the following athletic programs:
5TH – 8TH GRADES
FALL:
Girl’s Volleyball
Boy’s Flag Football
WINTER:
Boy’s and Girl’s Basketball
3RD – 8TH GRADES
SPRING:
Track and Field
Hephatha students begin Physical Education (P.E.) in Kindergarten, participate in the Presidential Physical Fitness Program, and have the opportunity to earn physical fitness awards. In addition, our Kindergarten through 4th grade students participate in Hephatha’s annual “Mini Olympics”.
THE HLS MUSIC PROGRAM
At Hephatha, we believe that a well-rounded education extends beyond the classroom. Our robust music program, led by a dedicated Music Director, serves all grades and offers students the opportunity to explore Band, Strings, Choir, and Piano.
Strings are available even for our youngest learners in K–2nd. For those looking to deepen their musical skills, private lessons are also offered.
We believe The Arts are a major component of a well-rounded education. Over two-thirds of our student body are involved in Music at Hephatha! We arrange our before, during, and after school schedules to ensure students have the space to participate in simultaneous extra-curricular and co-curricular activities. During their time at Hephatha, students have the opportunity to discover who they are and what drives them, so that they have a healthy focus when they graduate! Involvement in Athletics, Music, Academies and Fine Arts are great opportunities for our students to do just that.
At the beginning of each school year, our students attend a Music assembly, students are introduced to the many instruments we offer. Click here for the Hephatha’s Music page, and watch our piece titled Hephatha at a Glance to see how vocal and instrumental music are integrated into our curriculum!
MUSIC IN THE CLASSROOM
Hephatha’s curriculum includes Vocal and/or Instrumental Music instruction one day a week, with the exception of Kindergarten, which has music two days a week: one day in the classroom, and one day in our state-of-the-art Music Room.
